Through targeted initiatives, the organization empowers residents to participate meaningfully in decision-making, ensuring transparent and inclusive resource allocation that reflects community needs

The key timelines of the Kenyan budget process, based on the national and county cycles, include:

  • August 30: Marks the beginning of the budget process, with the National and County Treasuries issuing circulars outlining guidelines and public participation procedures.
  • September 1: County Planning Departments table the Annual Development Plans (ADPs) in their respective assemblies, made public within seven days.
  • September 30: The National Treasury produces the Budget Review and Outlook Paper (BROP).
  • October 21: The national and county BROP are tabled before the National Assembly and County Assemblies for discussion.
  • November 15: The National Government publishes its first-quarter budget implementation report.
  • December 30: Deadline for the Auditor-General to publish audit reports for the previous fiscal year.
  • January 1: The Commission of Revenue Allocation submits its revenue division recommendations.
  • February 15: The Budget Policy Statement, division of revenue, and county allocation of revenue bills are submitted to Parliament; the County Fiscal Strategy Paper is tabled in County Assemblies.
  • February 28: The Budget Policy Statement is approved by Parliament; the County Fiscal Strategy Paper is approved by County Assemblies.
  • March 14: County Fiscal Strategy Paper is approved by County Assemblies.
  • April 30: Deadline for the Treasury CS to submit budget estimates and related bills to the National Assembly.
  • May 15: The national government publishes its third-quarter budget implementation report.
  • June 12: Treasury CS tables the budget statement in the National Assembly (for FY 2025/26).
  • June 30: End of the financial year, marking the start of a new budget implementation cycle.

These dates guide the formulation, approval, implementation, and audit stages, though delays can occur.
